Carnival sweets are used to brighten up fun parties that children really enjoy. For them you have this recipe for casadielles frites, a cupcake filled with nuts typical of the Spanish region of Asturias.

With slight variations, this recipe reveals one of the most typical sweets of the Carnival festivities, a few days when children have fun with costumes. If you accompany the celebration of this dessert, it will surely be a success.

  • 250 gr. Of flour
  • 100 gr. butter or margarine
  • 100 ml. white wine
  • 125 ml. of water
  • 100 ml. milk
  • 1 teaspoon yeast
  • 500 gr. ground walnuts
  • 250 gr. of sugar
  • Anise
  • Olive oil

1. Mix the ground walnuts with the sugar, and add anise (about half a glass) to form a paste, which will be used for the filling.

2. For the dough, cut the butter or margarine (at room temperature) into cubes, add the milk, water and wine. Mix the flour with the yeast and add it to the mixture little by little.

3. Form an elastic dough and work well, adding a little more flour if necessary. Spread the dough on a floured surface with the help of a rolling pin, leaving it very thin. Make rectangles the size of cupcakes so they can be folded.

4. Spread a little dough again along each portion of dough, fold and close tightly with finger pressure or a fork.

5. Heat plenty of oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Fry the casadielles on both sides, until they are golden brown. Let drain on kitchen paper and sprinkle with sugar.
